Helping you to get a good night’s sleep

Are you tired of snoring?

Who doesn’t welcome a peaceful and restful night’s sleep? For many people, and their partners, this is something they may not have enjoyed for a long time. And the cause of this is something that can often be alleviated, snoring!

March 13th is World Sleep Day and at a time when we are all being encouraged to stay healthy and well-rested, isn’t it about time to think about how you can improve the quality of your sleep?

When you don’t sleep well, you wake up feeling irritable, can’t concentrate and generally don’t feel like facing the challenges of the day. It also affects your overall wellbeing as it’s long been recognised that getting a good night’s sleep helps promote better health.

So what are the benefits of getting a good night’s sleep? Here are just a few of the reasons we found. Sleep helps to strengthen your immune system, reduces stress, improves your memory, lowers your blood pressure, puts you in a better mood and so much more.

Snoring occurs when the soft tissues and muscles in the roof of your mouth relax partially blocking your airway. This restricted airflow causes the tissues to vibrate making the snoring sound. In severe cases, this can also lead to difficulties breathing and this is called sleep apnoea.

There are many remedies for snoring and one is to wear a discreet appliance in your mouth that helps to keep your airway open. The device works by gently encouraging your lower jaw forward maintaining a good airway throughout the night.

At East Midlands Orthodontics, we have an onsite lab that manufactures various types of sleep appliances ensuring a perfect fit for a comfortable night’s sleep. After attending a consultation with our specialist orthodontist, Dr Robbie Wood, we will take a scan of your teeth and make an appliance that you can wear whilst you are sleeping to help reduce the chance of snoring.

Most of our appliances of fully adjustable allowing you to find the perfect fit that is both comfortable and effective. It does take a few days to get used to wearing a snoring appliance but the benefits of a good night’s sleep are realised almost immediately. One of our patients commented that they had experienced some of the best night’s sleep since starting and now wear their appliance every night.

If you want to explore how a snoring appliance can help you, get in touch and we will be delighted to arrange an appointment for you.
