Dr Wood qualified as an orthodontist in 1980, and is now the owner and specialist orthodontist at East Midlands Orthodontics. His real journey began in 1988, when he set up his own practice in the area, and where he would stay for 33 years perfecting smiles and looking after generations of families until 2013.
With the exciting developments in dentistry, new innovations in digital treatment planning, and an ever growing number of patients, Dr Wood then moved to a larger, purpose-built building to accommodate the expansion of his practice, now named East Midlands Orthodontics!
His vision was to create a practice where not only the results and customer care were paramount, but the overall experience would be something special, which he achieved by bringing together the right mix of people with specialised skills and talents. His passion for orthodontics is still as high as when he first began his career, and he loves to see the smile transformation that has taken place in every patient, and how happy and confident people become.
Dr Wood was placed on the specialist orthodontics registrar in 2000; a significant achievement that recognises the longevity and excellence he has brought to the profession over his long and successful career.
Dr Giacosa qualified with honours in 1997, and attained his orthodontic specialisation 3 years later again with honours, and is on the specialist list in orthodontics on the General Dental Council. Dr Giacosa has been published in several orthodontic journals and has lectured both nationally and internationally, and his interest in a multidisciplinary approach means he works closely with other specialists to solve the most complicated treatment plans successfully. He also has extensive training in lingual braces (hidden brackets), Invisalign, and cosmetic braces (ceramic brackets).
Outside of dentistry, Dr Leone is a keen tennis player with a passion for theatre and classical music – he plays the piano and is currently learning to play the violin!
Dr. Nearchou is our private dentist with special interest in orthodontics. He obtained his first degree in dentistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece in 2005. Dr. Nearchou is passionate about orthodontics and has dedicated his career to this field. In 2012, he obtained the certificate of Orthodontics from the University of Warwick and then continued to obtain the MSc in Orthodontics. He has also worked with Invisalign since 2012 and is currently a Spark provider. He is an avid user of the Damon system.
Mr Ioannis Stergiou is a Dentist with a Special Interest in Orthodontics who joined the practice in 2022. He holds a Degree in Dentistry from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Master’s Degree in Orthodontics from Ulster University.
Mr Stergiou provides a full range of orthodontic treatments, including fixed orthodontic appliances and clear aligner systems such as Invisalign and Spark Aligners. His clinical approach is grounded in current best practices and tailored to the specific needs of each patient, with a strong emphasis on functional outcomes and long-term stability.
In addition to his orthodontic focus, Mr Stergiou has extensive experience in general dentistry, having worked in both NHS and private practice settings for over seven years. His broad clinical background enables a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to dental care.
Outside of his clinical commitments, Mr Stergiou maintains an active lifestyle and enjoys running and visiting the cinema.
